Building a Dream
The New Year’s Eve nuptials of Kara Ruiz and Marvin Brown were a celebration in grand style, described by the bride as “a
fantasy come true.”
The Royal Palms Resort and Spa was the setting for a lovely beginning for the couple, who exchanged vows at sunset. Meaningful traditions from the bride’s Jewish background and the groom’s African American heritage were effortlessly incorporated into the couple’s intimate ceremony. Surrounded by twinkling lights on a patio scattered with a profusion of white flower petals, it almost looked as if there was a fresh dusting of snow on the patio. But of course, this was New Year’s Eve in Phoenix. Trees adorned with sparkling crystals and votive lights continued the romantic theme.
Once the couple jumped the broom into their new beginning together, they invited their wedding party into the ballroom where the scene featured bright floral centerpieces and flickering candlelight. “It was New Year’s Eve and romance was in the air,” recalls the bride.
A feast of seafood delicacies, from ahi tacos to salmon with cream cheese, enchanted the guests prior to an elegant surf and turf dinner. A candy buffet offered a treat for guests with a sweet tooth.
Although it was mid-week, it was New Year’s Eve, and the party continued well into the night. A band played favorites for the guests, who especially enjoyed a “couples dance” that honored those in attendance who had been married the longest. The bride’s parents and the couple who introduced them won top honors.
As the countdown to midnight began, Kara and Marvin gathered their wedding guests on the lawn for a spectacular surprise: fireworks! “To have fireworks on my wedding was unbelievable,” recalls Kara. “I was definitely the princess that I always wanted to be on my wedding day!”
